Necole + Chris – An Intimate Micro Wedding at The Pond at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve

Okay, confession time: I may or may not have been finishing the latest episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty (Team Conrad forever 🥰) while editing this gallery… and honestly, it gave me all the swoony summer-love vibes that match Necole + Chris’s wedding perfectly. Some wedding days just have a glow about them, and theirs at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve was exactly that. The sunshine, the dragonflies, the sparkling pond—it all felt like we had stepped right into a woodland fairytale.

A Peaceful, Happy Start

There was a calmness in the air the second I arrived — which is kind of hilarious, because thanks to a highway closure, Necole actually beat everyone (including Chris!) to the ceremony. But instead of stress or rushing, the day felt relaxed and joyful. With about 20 of their closest family and friends gathered, everything was intimate and intentional. Every detail felt connected to them: Necole’s daughter (maid of honor) and stepdaughter (junior bridesmaid) in vibrant coral gowns, Chris and the boys balancing it out in navy. The colors popped beautifully against the lush summer greenery!

A Ceremony by The Pond

The ceremony took place in front of the rustic wooden pergola by the pond. Lotus blooms floated nearby, dragonflies hovered, and the sound of water created the sweetest backdrop. It’s one of those settings that feels alive, like it’s holding its breath right along with you.

One of the most moving parts was their Celtic Knot Ritual. Handfasting is an old tradition where cords are wrapped around the couple’s hands — the original “tying the knot.” For Necole + Chris, it symbolized not just their promises to each other, but also the weaving together of both families. Watching their hands being tied together was such a powerful reminder of what a wedding is really about: connection.

And then came the vows. As a photographer, I’ll admit there are moments I get so caught up in the emotions that I have to remind myself — don’t stop pressing the shutter button! This was one of those times. The way they looked at each other while reading their vows — completely locked in, completely present — made time feel like it slowed down for just a minute.

Portraits in the Wild

After the ceremony, we wandered through the wooded trails and wildflower meadows of the Preserve. That’s the magic of Bowman’s — you turn a corner and suddenly have a brand-new backdrop: shady paths, bursts of wildflowers, open fields.

Necole + Chris made portraits so easy. They laughed, whispered little things, and slipped into those natural, in-between moments without me saying a word. Those candid seconds — a laugh, a glance, a hand squeeze — always end up being the photos couples treasure most, and these two gave me so many to capture.

Family Moments That Stood Out

Some of my favorite images from the day weren’t just of the couple, but of their families. Necole’s father quietly looking at his late wife’s picture on the memorial chair as Necole walked down the aisle, Chris’s mom pinning on his boutonniere, a sentimental charm tucked inside Necole’s dress, and of course, the look in both of their eyes as they shared their vows. Those are the kinds of moments that round out the story and show what the day really felt like.

Photographer’s Tip

Thinking about an intimate, micro wedding? Necole + Chris’s day is the perfect reminder that small doesn’t have to mean simple. With thoughtful details, a beautiful location, and your favorite people, the magic practically makes itself. And if you’re considering Bowman’s Hill — plan a little extra time to wander! Between the meadows, wooded paths, and wildflowers, you’ll find endless portrait spots that make your photos feel like a fairytale.

The Team That Made It Happen

Every wedding is a team effort, and this one came together beautifully thanks to these amazing vendors:

Final Thoughts

Necole + Chris’s wedding was proof that intimate celebrations can be every bit as beautiful and meaningful as big ones. With a small circle of family, heartfelt vows, and the natural beauty of Bowman’s Hill, it was a day overflowing with what matters most: love, connection, and a setting that made it all shine.

As I drove home, my heart (and my camera card!) felt so full. I’m beyond grateful to have been invited into their story. ✨
