The Preserve has also earned national recognition. Its Native Plant Nursery was named the No. 10 Best Plant Nursery in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The award belongs specifically to the nursery, but it reflects the knowledge, care and purpose behind the landscape surrounding a wedding here.
This is not a property landscaped to imitate nature for events. It is a living museum filled with woodland paths, ponds, native blooms and the pollinators that arrive with them.

The scenery changes as you walk through the Preserve. One turn may lead into cool shade beneath mature trees, while another opens onto wildflowers, sunny lawn or a quiet pond.
During the summer wedding I photographed here, dragonflies, butterflies and bees moved through the gardens while I worked. It honestly felt a little like a Disney movie set—except nothing had been created just for the scene. The beauty was already there and completely alive.
That variety is wonderful for wedding photography. We can create wide photographs that show the landscape and establish a sense of place, then move into softer shaded light for closer, more connected images. The Pond is an especially peaceful choice for an outdoor ceremony. The stone patio and surrounding lawn are framed by mature trees, native plantings and water. It can feel intimate with a small gathering while still offering enough room for a larger guest list.
The Preserve’s wedding information notes that The Pond can accommodate up to 125 guests. The Moore Pavilion can accommodate up to 200, while the Gazebo in the Woods and Stone Bridge are options for smaller ceremonies of up to 50 guests.

Before the wedding, we confirmed the couple’s timeline and priorities so we could work together smoothly. She even reminded me to bring sunscreen and bug spray—which was very good advice for a warm summer afternoon!
On the wedding day, Eleanor guided the procession, made sure everyone knew where to stand and when to walk, arranged golf-cart assistance for family members who needed it and brought us to some of the best portrait locations on the property.
We may have represented different businesses, but for that day, we became one vendor team. When everyone is looking out for the same couple, the experience feels seamless and the couple gets to remain present inside their wedding.
A Photographer’s Planning Tips
Give yourself a little breathing room in the timeline. Bowman’s Hill rewards a relaxed walk, and extra portrait time allows you to experience more than one landscape without feeling hurried.
Comfortable shoes for the paths, water, sunscreen and bug spray are smart additions during warmer months. It is also worth discussing accessible routes and transportation for guests who may need assistance.
The Preserve will not look exactly the same during every season—and that is part of its charm. Your photographs will reflect the real colors, textures and light present on your wedding date.
One Real Wedding at The Pond
